Design & Copywriting

While design isn’t my strongest point, I have enough experience to create basic ads and other print materials.  Creating the messages and content for these ads, on the other hand, is my specialty.

Check out my work below  to see a handful of my design and copywriting work which includes newspaper ads, direct mail pieces, a brochure and even a billboard.  To see a more-readable image, click on each.

Brochures

One of my first difficult tasks for the American Board of Optometry included redesigning its informational brochure. The organization’s current one was packed with so much content that the largest font was 10 pt. Some content was as small as 6 pt! The ABO was trying to pack too much information into one brochure.

I stripped most of the content and rewrote what was left to leave enough information for the reader but also gave incentive to do something much more important – visit the ABO website to learn more.  Pushing readers to the website is always my main goal, because that’s where they apply to become board certified. Formatting the brochure’s remaining content was a challenge, but I think I did a good job at keeping it organized.

Check out the updated brochure below or view the pdf as a whole:

Would you like to see more? For one of my former clients at Marketicity, Garden Place Senior Living, I designed and wrote copy for a brochure focusing on their general services.

Print Advertising

I’ve worked with some great designers. While they designed these ads for me, I updated copy for them on a weekly basis.  Check out an ad below. Want to see more?  Contact me, and I’ll send you some additional samples.

Billboards

I’m pretty proud of this billboard.  It went up right before Thanksgiving 2010 on Route 3, just south of Red Bud, Illinois.

Pretty cool, huh? Yeah, I pat myself on the back every time I drive past it.

Direct Mail

Direct mail advertising isn’t very different from other types of ad design.  You just have to catch the consumer’s eye before your piece gets too close to the trash bin.  Here’s the front of one of my most recent pieces:
